826 Valencia's Mission Center writers' lab is our first writers' lab, and the seed of inspiration around which all our other works crystallized. I'm writing this in June 2020, a couple hours before heading downtown to protest George Floyd's murder and our nation's widespread and ongoing brutality against people of color, and it's good to read this book; this book is full of young people from San Francisco's traditionally Latinx Mission neighborhood, talking about themselves, what makes them happy, what makes them who they are, talking about their families and their traditions, their experiences at school and at play. We do what we do to help them grow in confidence and power.
All proceeds benefit our free writing programs for under-resourced San Francisco students 6-18.
